Can anyone recommend some good block games that work well as a solitaire -- card driven or otherwise?
I'm the most interested in American French and Indian War/Revolutionary war and Fuedal Japan... this week. _________________ FxP |

Sorry Felix, I do know a few block games from "American French and Indian War/Revolutionary War" not many and none of them are for solo play.. both American French and Indian War/Revolutionary war had lots of Fog of war and the games show that.
Sorry I cant be of help
Cheers
Mike
PS IF you can find someone to do the moving for you , you can do the battles,,, maybe a wife or Girl friend |

I'm between two GMT games for my next purchase: Samurai or Ran both are part of the Great Battles of History [GBoH] series and both focus on battles in fuedal Japan in the 16th and 17th century.
Does anyone know if both games use the same combat mechanics and if there is any difference in enjoyment with regrad to which you should play first?
I know this is a bit of an obscure question -- but you never know answers can come from improbable places.
FYI, I've asked the same question on the BGG forums, if I get an answer I'll post back here for everyone's information. _________________ FxP |

Hi Felix,
Usually, solitairy rules have to be made up.
There's a nice set on the battlelore forum though that is most usable. You might check it out (or was it yours to begin with?)
Cheers,

FYI everyone and with regard to the differences between Samurai and Ran...
The consensus amongst the initiated seems to be that the RAN rules set -- being the second issue of the fuedal Japan period -- is somewhat more steamlined and the battles are smaller. It was recommended that even though Samurai was the first game published that RAN is the better one to start with and then graduate to Samurai which is somewhat more complex.
PS - I wasn't neccessarily looking for new solo rules rather games that lend themselves well to solo play, but I agree the BattleLore rules linked above work very well and the fundamental mechanics work for C&C:A too! _________________ FxP |
